Good noodle place with an ok wait time. a bit of ceremony with the dunking of the noodles. They have vegetarian options
The staffs were really accommodating especially for a group of 5 with 2 tables and service was prompt after ordering. Additional explanations on the menu and eating instructions were given by the friendly waitress in English, so kudos for their effort. I highly recommend and will definitely visit Omen again for their signature Udon and traditional Japanese style presentation.
I ate this for dinner at a restaurant that was recommended to me by my wife. It was my first time to eat Kyoto udon, but I got the impression that it was not the udon you would normally eat, but rather a traditional Japanese dish that even foreign tourists could enjoy. For a moment, I thought it was Japanese-style tsukemen with a luxurious hot water bath, but this one has a longer history. I don't mean this in a bad way, but I've reflected on the idea that I used to eat udon as a filling for one of my three meals a day, or as a filler when I was feeling a little hungry. I also had the mackerel sushi set, and I wondered whether it was because the meat was so thick and the amount of vinegar was minimal, or how delicious authentic mackerel sushi is. We also had beer and had a proper dinner (I'm still biased...).
I wanted a quick dinner, so I searched for Kyoto udon and found this place, and it was better than I expected.
I ordered Omen Udon, which seemed to be the main menu.
They say you eat katsuobushi soup with toppings such as sesame seeds.
I was a little confused because the udon noodles were sprinkled with yuzu.
If you dip it in soup and eat it, it doesn’t taste like yuzu.
Toppings include sesame seeds, radish, ginger, green onions, boiled? There were mushrooms, carrots, etc.
Not all of them are what I like... but I was a bit confused.
It was delicious because I started with sesame seeds and added little by little toppings except ginger.
I don't know if I'm eating it by adding what's in the side dish bowl or eating it separately, but it tastes delicious when I put it in, so I put it all in.
At first the taste was so bland, what was it? But if you put the noodles deep into the soup bowl, the flavor becomes richer.
Spice powder lying around? I don't know if it was because they added 8 different flavor powders, but the more I ate the soup, the spicier it became.
The quantity is a bit small compared to the price.
We stopped in after a few hours of shopping around Kyoto. Centrally located and can get pretty busy during peak times.
Kyoto cold udon restaurant Omen
It is located near Gion-Shijo Station and is popular not only for tourists but also for tourists.
It seemed to be a restaurant that many locals frequent.
I ordered from the set menu.
The sushi was okay, but the tempura set was better.
The sauce had a light and clean taste.
The noodles were very chewy and plump and delicious.
This is my first visit to this shop, even though it's the same ``Omen'' restaurant.
The fact that a shop that looks like a renovated old folk house still remains in …
Worst of all, I waited for over an hour and a half just to eat this udon. What's even worse is that they tried to serve everyone who came in before the breaking time at once, so it took over 40 minutes for the person who came in first to …
